These engines are both offered with stop-start tech and multiple driving modes. For the 2021 Highlander, the V6, 3.5-liter gas engine generates 295 horsepower and has start-stop mechanics. The Highlander’s hybrid engine is a 2.5-liter option that produces 243 combined horsepower.

Appearance

The confidence and refinement of the RAV4 and the Highlander are fully displayed across their shared style elements as well as with their individuality. Both of these Toyota models for 2021 have stacked, downturned elements throughout the grille and lower front fascia. They also have bold LED headlights, and their foglamps are set back in molded ports. The RAV4 has edgy elements with squared-off wheel wells, crisp side accents, a rear skid plate, and a connection bar between the taillights. The Highlander has smooth curvature throughout its contours as well as powerful swells over the rear wheel wells. It continues to stand apart from the RAV4 with its separated taillights and tall turning signals.
